Red ink in Pittsburgh Municipalities

The money troubles of local government in Western Pennsylvania have been the subject of attention by The Regional Indicator since its first weeks.  An analysis done for the site in 2008 attracted wide attention and some criticism.  Updated versions  of the two essays that were the bedrock of those indicators, one on expenses, the second on structural deficits, are now available.  These analyses cover the five years 2002 to 2006; however, complete data on the 500-plus governments involved are in the process of development and not yet organized for publication.
