The number of jobs per 100,000 residents in arts and cultural establishments in the Pittsburgh Metropolitan Statistical Area increased from 186.9 in 2013 to 190.5 in 2014. The 2014 total was above the benchmark average of 169.
Cultural establishments include a broad array of organizations beyond more narrowly defined “arts” groups, including zoos and nature parks. The total count in the data below is the sum of the following types of establishments: theaters, dance companies, musical groups and artists, other performing arts, museums, historical sites, zoos and botanical gardens, nature parks, fine arts schools, independent artists, writers and performers, art dealers. These data are from the U.S. Census Bureau’s County Business Patterns and are updated annually.
