Because individuals and specific occupations can get lost in indicators like our data on average annual and average quarterly wage rates, we are publishing average annual wages from the Bureau of Labor Statistics for specific occupations in 16 categories. Local pay is tracked against comparables in 15 benchmark cities.

Occupations where Pittsburgh ranked above benchmark regions in annual pay in 2016 include Civil Engineers at $96,570 (highest paying among benchmark regions), Family and General Practitioners at $234,130  (third-highest paying among benchmark regions) and Financial Managers at $150,040  (fourth-highest paying among benchmark regions).

Occupations where Pittsburgh ranked below benchmark regions in annual pay include Machinists at $40,500 (second-lowest paying among benchmark regions) and Child Care Workers at $21,350 (also second-lowest paying among benchmark regions).
