The percentage of Pittsburghers who attend performances and exhibits is notably higher than the national average, with the people of Allegheny County often in the vanguard. The eight measured arts activities are listed below.

These conclusions draw on a regional survey done in the fall of 2006 and national data from the National Endowment for the Arts. In comparing regional and national data is is important to note that the 2002 NEA survey was the work of U.S. Census enumerators, while the 1997 NEA and 2006 Pittsburgh surveys were done by telephone, typically yielding more positive responses.
